“Through music, we remember what is sacred.” - Derek
About
Derek Chastain is a singer-songwriter based in Greencastle, Indiana, known for a broad musical approach that draws from rock, folk, jazz, and other acoustic traditions. Performing both solo and in collaboration with other musicians, Derek’s work reflects a love of storytelling, experimentation, and community-centered music.
In addition to his solo performances, Derek is involved in several music projects, including Derek Chastain & The Dimrill Bards, a string folk group; DĀBRK, an experimental indie rock band; and The Kinnemens, a Celtic group focused on traditional and celebratory music.
Beyond the stage, Derek plays an active role in supporting the regional music scene. He hosts four open mic nights throughout Central Indiana—two weekly and two monthly—creating welcoming spaces for local musicians to share their work. He also organizes The Local Bards, a singer-songwriter showcase in Greencastle that highlights original music and fosters a strong sense of community.
Derek lives at The BlueBerry House in Greencastle, surrounded by native Indiana trees, where he balances his music career with family life. When he’s not performing or writing, he enjoys spending time with his kids, kayaking local waters, and working on projects around an old building.
